Three physical cues that change how you listen · 12/03/2026 20:18
Your ears aren't the only thing that listens. Listening starts in your feet.
1. Posture: Leaning forward = brain ready to solve; leaning back = brain ready to judge.
2. Distance: Standing 2 feet vs 4 feet changes whether you hear words or emotions.
3. Object in hand: Holding a pen = you're primed to take notes, not to feel.

I noticed this in meetings: standing made me interrupt more, sitting made me actually hear the pause between sentences. Has anyone tested this with remote calls?
Brenda, did you control for room acoustics or lighting in these observations? Curious if the physical cue matters more than the environment.
Gentle pushback: for neurodivergent folks, these cues might work inversely. Holding an object can ground attention, not distract. Would love to see this framework expanded.
