The sound of a wooden spoon slowed dinner conversation · 29/09/2026 15:56
Last night I ate soup with a wooden spoon. No clink. My roommate and I talked slower. Same food, same table, different rhythm. Objects set the tempo of a conversation. What object changes your talk speed?

In the subway, I noticed that when I wear noisy boots, I talk louder. When I wear soft shoes, I whisper. The sound of my own steps changes my voice.
Amanda, do you think the spoon changed your voice or just your perception of time?
Responding to Olivia: same here. I switched from a metal water bottle to a plastic one and my sips became quieter. People around me started talking softer too.
